Combination – Do my Finished Products Work Well as a Promotional Package?

I feel that my new video works a lot better with my ancillary texts as they all have a close link of a car. I also think that the video is much better now as it looks more like a music video, and not just go karts going round a track. The inside covers of the digipak are of the interior of a car and so in my video when we see nearly everything from a first person perspective, it links better, especially when I have the shot of the car driving and the audience can see what the driver would be able to see.

Editing The New Footage

Once I had collected all of the footage that I needed I uploaded it onto the computer. To edit my footage I used Adobe Premiere Elements 1.0 as it includes more effects which will make my overall video appear more professional. I started by cutting all my footage up into the sections that I had filmed, so that it was easier to work with. I then put the shots I wanted into the order similar to the plan of my storyboard.

Once it was in order I had to cut it all down as it was much longer than the song. I also wanted to put effects into my video to help the shots blend together better. I used many different effects within the video, and I tried to use one's which linked well with the song and the actual footage. Some of the effects that I used were cross zoom, where it zoomed into the middle of the shot and then back out onto the other shot, a roll away to change from one setting to another, a dip to black on every beat of the music for the first 30 seconds and a cross dissolve going from the hand tapping on the wheel to the car driving along the road. I also think that the way that I edited the footage helps to link the shots together and makes it easier to see the link with the visual and the sound of the music.

Collecting The New Footage

Because I was working to a close deadline, before getting the camera, I planned out where I would film each shot on my storyboard and then organised them so I knew what needed filmed and when. Once this was done I got a camera and began to collect my footage. I started by filming during the day, because I wanted my video to start in daytime and then go to night time. I filmed different close ups of the car, using a slow zoom in and out so that when it came to editing it I had the shot from different distances. I used the tripod when filming this part so that the shot was very still.

After I got this footage I stuck the camera to the dashboard of the car and drove round so that I could get a 1st person perspective of driving. I did this several times at different times of the day and night so when I put the footage together I had a lot of choices for the time of day. After I filmed this I filmed close ups of the car again but this time at night. I filmed the car then slowly zoomed in the light and then when I zoomed out the light was switched on. I then slowly walked around the car, filming it from different angles to see what effect it would have.

After I had finished filming the car I filmed a hand tapping to the rhythm of the song on the steering wheel and then the rev counter going up as if the car was accelerating. Once I felt I had enough footage of the car I filmed a close up of a boy's mouth singing along with the song so that I could include that and then it would follow the codes and conventions of music video's by including the artist or another person lip syncing to the song.

Mini Animation

After planning out the storyboard for my new music video, I gathered pictures from the Internet and using the song I made a mini animation on Movie Maker to get an idea of what I wanted the video to look like. It also helped with with time management as I could see how much time I had for the song and the amount of shots I would need to fill each section of the song.

New Video Plans

This is the new storyboard for my music video. I am going to start by having close ups of a car during the day time. I am then going to zoom in on the headlight and then when I zoom out I am going to have it at night time and have the headlight switched on. I will then pan around the car before cutting to the white lines on the road. Then I will show the cats eyes on the road, being lit up by the car headlights. After this I will have an over the shoulder shot of the drivers hands on the steering wheel tapping to the rhythm of the music, and then a close up of the dashboard with the lights on it, and the rev counter or speedometer moving. I then will get a side shot of the driver in the seat about to drive away. When the key lyrics in the song start, I will have a close up of someones face lip syncing, and then an extreme close up of their mouth. When the lyrics finish I will go back to shots of the car, and maybe have a shot of the CD player. Towards the end of the video I will have shots of the car driving round.
